Bike Workshop and Ride

Enjoy riding a bike? Want to learn more skills and strategies for going places, and having fun, AND fighting climate change, on two or three wheels? Son and father dynamic duo Ben and Jim Laurenson, experienced bike and bike/transit users (Ben even works at REI!), with support from the Cedar Lane Environmental Justice Ministry, will hold a live in-person and streamed (Zoom) presentation and discussion on how to safely and effectively incorporate cycling into your life, whatever that means for you, whether just for exercise or to transition away from your car and toward multi-modal commuting. Don't have a bike yet? Or think you have one but no idea where it is and what condition it's in?

Haven't ridden in awhile? Worried about cars? Wondering how to put a bike on a bus or bring it on Metro rail? No problem, we'll walk you through which kind of bike to look for, or how to refurbish one, the basic equipment you need for maintenance and/or which local bike shops to use, the best routes to take from home to wherever, how to ride safely, and how to use your bike on mass transit. Later in the summer, we'll lead a ride starting and ending at Cedar Lane and put into practice some of what we discussed. We'll also lead another ride into DC along the Potomac, and return via Metro, thus recreating Ben and Jim's first such trip together almost 20 years ago!
